The England Hockey Junior Competitions Framework aims to offer greater clarity on alignment in the junior hockey calendar ensuring provision for all levels of club to participate, improving the way that the calendar can work to support players and clubs in making good choices around activities and avoid conflicts.

Fixtures have been entered on to the Game Management System (GMS) and clubs are now able to amend and are responsible for entering venue details, match times and ensuring all their team contacts are kept up to date.

Are you coaching, managing, administering or volunteering in a junior team who play in any U14, U16 or U18 Area league competitions or England Hockey Championships?  If so, along with England Hockey, we've created a couple of videos that further explain and give tips on what you need to do before, during and after a game, along with some best practice advice to ensure you are adhering to the Junior Regulations.

If your team play games outside of these competitions, then please do watch video 2 where you will find helpful tips on how to manage the game when one side is heavily outplaying the other.

Club Junior Leagues for Season 2023/24 - U14, U16, U18

  • Tier 1 Leagues are intended for the top teams at these age groups. After an initial round of matches at the North West Area level, the top 3 teams will qualify for a national Supra League which will run for the remainder of the season post Christmas & lead to National Finals. The remaining teams will play in the Junior North West Hockey Leagues.  Please note, that the U16 Age Group is now organised centrally by England Hockey and teams are automatically entered in the Supra League with no North West Rounds.
  • Tier 2 Leagues are North West Area level competition, some with a number of pools arranged geographically to minimise travel. North West Area Finals will be held at the end of the season, if required.
  • Tier 3 & 4 Leagues are managed by the local County Hockey Associations (Cumbria, Lancs and Cheshire), to minimize travel and offer a more appropriate level of activity. North West Area Finals will be held at the end of the season, if required. The age group offer may differ across each County.

There will be no plate or knock out competitions in the North West Area this season, but may be considered in the future.
