To Engage proactively with North West Clubs with Key the AOC Contact: Club Umpire Development lead and the team of Cluster Leadssupporting and recruiting the Development of Club Development Officers.

To agree and deliver a plan to support clubs to develop and grow their pool of umpires / officials to meet the demand of club hockey and Officiating development pathway

Clubs are expected to appoint a Club Umpire Liaison officer as part of their management structure, who will be responsible for helping to link together all of the club and Area umpires associated with a club.

Clubs should also appoint a Club Umpire Developer (who has completed the England Hockey Club Umpire Developer training course – hereto help with the local development of umpiring and umpires.

Please ensure that our Club Umpire Development Lead/Cluster Leads has contact details for both of these important posts in your club.

Umpire Level 1 Pathway and Progression

North West Hockey are keen to support umpires through to becoming a level 1 assessed umpire and beyond. There are a number of tools and steps that can help clubs and individuals achieve their goal. Individuals should register on the EH Hockey Hub (its free), Login: https: /hockeyhub.englandhockey.co.uk/officiating 

Note: please ensure that you login with the same login you use for GMS.

  • Take the EH Online Rules Test (its free) and you can begin to umpire for your own club (on suitable games), these can be Adult of Junior games, Rules test:  https://hockeyhub.englandhockey.co.uk/rules
  • Once the EH Rules test has been completed individuals/umpires can take the Level 1 course online and free via the EH Hockey Hub booking site: https://hockeyhub.englandhockey.co.uk/officiating-offer
  • Once ready to take their level 1 assessment aspiring umpires should approach the Club Umpire Developer or Umpire Liaison Officer and or the North West Club Umpire Development Officer Email:  umpiredevlead@northwesthockey.co.uk   who will provide further information on getting assessed.
  • All umpires should be members of the England Hockey Officiating Club (EHO) and take the relevant membership category see link here for EHO membership levels.
  • Progression to level 2 and beyond. Should an umpire wish to progress to level 2 they must firstly complete the Level 2 Registration form see link here complete the form and return to Tony Shutt Email: appointmentslead@northwesthockey.co.uk who will provide further information on progressing to level 2. Note: A level 2 assessment must be on an Adult League Division one game as a minimum requirement.
  • The level 2 award is aimed at umpires who wish to take neutral (Area Appointments) on Adult League Grade 2 matches, whereby the umpire will supported with regular Coaching and Observations. To maintain their level 2 umpires must be umpiring Adult League Grade 2 games regularly as a minimum.

The Hockey Hub is a one-stop shop for hockey deliverers where they can access the most current information around courses, learning and development. The Hockey Hub is aimed at supporting all hockey deliverers throughout the game

Find and Umpire North West Hockey has a Facebook page, where local clubs, schools and universities can reach out to local umpires to fulfil friendly and league matches at the weekend and during the week.
